WiMAX
Forum expects 3.5 GHz certified products by end of 2008
The WiMAX Forum revealed its roadmap for 3.5 GHz
equipment certification during the inaugural WiMAX Forum Global
Congress in Amsterdam, with plans for equipment in the 3.5 GHz band
to achieve the WiMAX Forum Certified- seal of approval by the end
of 2008. The 3.5 GHz band includes the validation and certification
of three profiles based on channel bandwidths of 5, 7, and 10 MHz.

The new ID of "MP" simply means "Mobile Profile". CWG
was consistently use the new nomenclature exclusively in the first
batch of 2.3GHz (MP01) and 2.5GHz (MP05) certificate from April 2008.

Official
testing of WiMAX Radiated Performance Tests (RPT) will be available
since August at Bureau Veritas ADT
Bureau Veritas
ADT has already provided the pre-RPT testing service from begining
of July and expects to initiate official WiMAX RPT testing from August
2008 at its new fully anechoic chamber.
RPT includes
the transmit and receive performance aspects of WiMAX Subscriber and
Mobile Stations in a radiated test configuration. These tests are used
to evaluate the radiated performance of devices that utilize WiMAX
air interface profile.

Wi-Fi
Alliance now certifying devices for Voice Over Wi-Fi applications
Wi-Fi Alliance
announced the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Voice-Personal program as well as some
of the first products that have achieved this certification on June
30. This new certification program extends beyond interoperability
testing to test the performance of products and help ensure that they
deliver good voice quality over the Wi-Fi link.
Wi Fi CERTIFIED Voice-Personal is an optional program open to client
devices and access points that have already been Wi Fi CERTIFIED for
802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g or 802.11n draft 2.0; Wi Fi Protected Access-Personal
(WPA/WPA2); Wi Fi Multimedia (WMM); and WMM Power Save (required for
access points, optional for client devices). It will test the key
performance metrics of packet loss, latency and jitter. In order to
achieve the certification, devices must experience less than 1% loss,
50ms jitter, and 50ms delay for voice, even when the devices are in
Power Save mode.
Bureau Veritas ADT is now establishing the capabilities for this new
program. The Service will be available sooner.

EU
published a new regulation for 2.6GHz frequency band
EU completed
and published an important regulation relating to 2.6GHz (2500-2690MHz)
frequency band on June 24th, 2008. The 2.6GHz decision 2008/477/EC
is titled "Commission Decision of 13th June 2008 on the harmonization
of the 2500-2690MHz frequency band for terrestrial systems capable
of providing electronic communications services in the Community".
This decision was made in addition to the recently published European
Commission Decision 2008/411/EC harmonizing the 3.5 GHz band for electronic
communications services and represents a key milestone in the drive
to advance new liberalized approaches to spectrum management within
the European Commission WAPECS ("Wireless Access Policy for Electronic
Communications Services") initiative.
