Essential Reminder: Updated Information of DFS certification issue by FCC

As for holding up the approval of any DFS (Dynamic Frequency Selection) master Certification, Federal Communication Committee (FCC) published the interim plans on 5th October 2009.

FCC announced few months ago that NTIA is currently investigating interference with UNII Master Devices, so the FCC has currently halted issuing new Certifications of Master devices until further notice.

Recently, FCC published the interim plans. In the interim, the Commission will allow certification of wireless master devices with radar detection function and with DFS capability, if they meet the following conditions:

ĦEDevices are intended for indoor operations only;

ĦEDevices will not permit operations on channels which overlap the 5600 - 5650 MHz band;

ĦEDevices meet all the other requirements specified in Section 15.407 and no configuration controls are provided to change the frequency of operations outside the grant of certification for US operation.

More details about the interim plan published by FCC, please see: KDB# 443999

Proposed Amendments to California Appliance Efficiency (Television) Regulations

The California Energy Commission (CEC) proposes to amend its Appliance Efficiency Regulations for televisions.

Two tiers of efficiency regulations have been proposed:

 ĦEThe first tier, effective on January 1, 2011, would require that television sets of 1,400 square inches or less, use fewer than 0.20* Screen Area (in2) + 32 watts of energy while in the On or Active mode. The overall energy savings for California is estimated to be 4.8 billion dollars over the ten years following the effective date of the standard.

ĦEThe second tier, effective on January 1, 2013, would require that television sets of 1,400 square inches or less, use fewer than 0.12* Screen Area (in2) + 25. The overall additional energy savings for California is estimated to be $3,339 million over the ten years following the effective date of the standard.

The CEC held a public hearing to receive public comment on the proposed rgulations on October 13, 2009 and will hold a second public hearing on November 4, 2009.
