Bureau Veritas ADT is now offering Assisted GPS (A-GPS) testing service

Bureau Veritas ADT is now offering Assisted GPS (A-GPS) testing service to the Cellular Handset industry according to the CTIA Test Plan for Mobile Stations Over the Air (OTA) Performance V3.0.

A-GPS development was driven by U.S. FCC Emergency 911 (E911) requirement to quickly provide cell phone location to emergency call dispatchers. A-GPS provides the mobile with knowledge of the GPS satellites to bring the Time to First Fix from minutes down to seconds.

Network operators know that A-GPS testing is important and would like to adopt CTIA’s A-GPS OTA testing. Bureau Veritas ADT can offer this testing for GSM, WCDMA, CDMA2000 Cellular Phone and Smart Phone.

In addition to offering CTIA Test Plan for Mobile Stations Over the Air Performance V3.0, Bureau Veritas ADT can also perform WiMAX Forum Radiated Performance Test (RPT) and Wi-Fi Alliance Converged Wireless Group RF (CWG-RF) Performance Evaluation.

For more details about Bureau Veritas ADT’s Over the Air Performance testing services, please see the attachments below.

Essential Reminder: China MIIT Publishes New Handset Charger Standard

In January 2010, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has published updated mobile charger standard YD/T 1591-2009, titled "Technical Requirements and Test Methods for Chargers and Data Interfaces for Mobile Telecommunications Terminals," It has many differences compared to former standard “ YD/T 1591-2006 : Technical Requirement and Test Method of Charger and Interface for Mobile Telecommunication Terminal Equipment” . For example, it requires Plug in/plug out of connector socket of Power Adapter (USB-A) for 3000 periods at the maximum speed during the 200 periods of one hour, after the plugging ends, the mechanical structure should not be damaged. The required minimum force for pulling the connection plug out from the socket is not less than 8N.

More requirement details of updated standard YD/T 1591-2009, please do not hesitate to contact Bureau Veritas ADT International Approval Department.

Essential Reminder: New Safety Requirement IEC 62368 has been released

IEC released new Safety Requirement IEC 62368 just in January 2010. It will have an impact on the manufacturers of electronic equipment within the field of audio/video, but also make improvement on the Safety Regulations.

IEC/TC108 recommends that the first edition of this standard be considered as an alternative to IEC 60065 or IEC 60950-1 at least over the recommended five years transition period. However, manufacturers and testing organizations may need to make products be in accordance with the new requirements and to equip themselves for conducting new or revised tests earlier.

IEC 62368-1 is based on the principles of hazard based safety engineering, which is a different way of developing and specifying safety considerations than that of the current practice. It is not the combination of current practices. It will be less technology (construction) dependent and more performance based, and the objective is that it will allow for implementation to a broader range of products and applications without the types of delays commonly encountered waiting for the standard to catch up to new technology/ constructions. The predominant reason behind the creation of IEC 62368-1 is to simplify the problems created by the merging of the technologies of ITE and CE.
